If there's one thing we at Durban Landscaping & Garden Maintenance know well, it’s that every great thing starts with a single seed. That’s why we were proud to roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty on National Tree Day, joining hundreds of volunteers at the Mullum Mullum Reserve to help plant a staggering 7,000 native plants across the area.
This wasn’t just about trees – it was about community, connection, and conservation. And it was an honour to stand side by side with locals, families, and fellow green thumbs, contributing to something bigger than ourselves.
7,000 Native Plants – One Incredible Day
Organised by Manningham Council's Parks & Natural Environment department and celebrated around the country, National Tree Day is Australia's largest community tree-planting event – and this year’s effort at Mullum Mullum was a standout. Together with volunteers, local groups, and council support, we transformed sections of the reserve into newly planted native corridors that will not only provide habitat for wildlife, but shade, clean air, and beauty for generations to come.
Durban was proud to lend our skills, time, and energy to the day. With spades in hand and smiles on faces, we helped plant everything from grasses and shrubs to small trees – all local species, chosen for their ability to thrive in the Mullum Mullum ecosystem.
More Than Just Planting – A Day of Connection
What made the day truly special wasn’t just the planting itself, but the community spirit that filled the air. People from all walks of life came together for a common purpose: to give back to the land, learn from one another, and create a greener tomorrow.
Children learned about native flora. Tunes were blasting and the good vibes were flowing. And for a couple hours, we all stepped away from screens and schedules to reconnect with nature and each other. <3
At Durban, we believe that events like this are vital. They remind us why we do what we do – not just to maintain beautiful spaces, but to nurture community and environment in equal measure.
A Proud Moment for Durban
For our founders, participating in National Tree Day at Mullum Mullum Reserve was more than symbolic – it was deeply personal. As a business rooted in care, family values, and a passion for the natural world, being part of this day reaffirmed everything we stand for.
Seeing the rows of young plants in the soil, the laughter of volunteers, and the shared pride in what we accomplished was, simply put, a beautiful moment.
Why Days Like This Matter
In a world where environmental challenges can feel overwhelming, National Tree Day is a powerful reminder that local action matters. A single tree might not change the world – but 7,000 native plants, planted with heart and hope, absolutely will.
These events help restore ecosystems, educate communities, and reconnect people with nature – all while creating spaces that future generations will enjoy and protect.
Let’s Keep Growing
Our work may begin in the soil, but it reaches far beyond it. At Durban, giving back isn’t a side project – it’s woven into our purpose. Every act of service, whether it’s planting for biodiversity, supporting community clubs, or uplifting families in need, reflects our belief that a strong business grows best in a thriving, supported community.
Thanks for reading this edition of The Dirt. If you were at Mullum Mullum on National Tree Day – we salute you! And if you’ve never been part of a planting day, maybe next year is your time to dig in and make a difference.
Until then – stay kind, stay grounded, and keep it green!
