The Dirt: Barefoot Bowls, Big Laughs & Better Bonds

At Durban Landscaping & Garden Maintenance, we know that strong teams aren’t built only on worksites – they’re built when people connect, laugh, and get to know each other beyond the job. That’s exactly why we brought the whole crew together for an unforgettable afternoon of team building, friendly competition, and good times at Club Sunbury.

Red vs Blue vs Green

The afternoon kicked off with teams drawn and colours assigned – Red, Blue, and Green – instantly setting the tone for some light-hearted rivalry. Shoes came off, bowls were rolled, and before long the laughter was louder than the clink of bowls on grass.

Whether you were a seasoned bowler or trying it for the very first time, everyone got stuck in. There were surprise skills, unexpected upsets, and plenty of cheeky celebrations after a well-placed bowl.

Playing for Bragging Rights (and Big Prizes!)

The competition didn’t take long to heat up, with bragging rights well and truly on the line. Anthony was crowned the 2026 Durban Lawn Bowls Champ, rolling his way to the top and taking home $600. But the fun didn’t stop there — we also handed out prizes for the Most Dangerous Bowler (some bowls had a mind of their own), Best Trick Shot (skill or luck… still unclear), the ever-popular Best Pedicure (because barefoot bowls really does put everything on display), and the Spirit of the Game Award for the player who brought the best energy, sportsmanship, and laughs to the green.

While the prizes were great, the real highlight was the atmosphere — teammates cheering each other on, sharing plenty of laughs, and bonding over a few near misses made the day one we’ll be talking about for a long time.

Why Days Like This Matter

At Durban, we believe that taking time to bring the team together is just as important as the work we do day-to-day. Team events like this create space for people to step away from the tools, schedules, and routines, allowing real connections to form. They help break down barriers, strengthen relationships, and build trust — all of which flow directly back into how we work together on site, communicate under pressure, and support one another when it matters most.

These moments give everyone the chance to connect on a more personal level, meet teammates they don’t always work alongside, and feel genuinely included. When people feel seen, valued, and connected, it shows. A stronger team leads to a happier workplace, better communication, greater respect for one another, and a culture where people don’t just turn up for work — they’re proud to be part of it.

More Than Just a Game

The Club Sunbury afternoon was full of laughs, friendly competition, and shared memories – the kind you’re still talking about the next week. It reminded us that when we come together, great things happen both on and off the field.

At Durban, we’ll keep creating moments like these – because looking after our people is just as important as looking after our green spaces.

Until next time – keep connecting, keep laughing, and keep growing together. 🌿
