The Dirt: Durban Trailblazers Hit the Road for Book Week

Book Week is all about celebrating the magic of stories – and this year, Durban added a fresh twist by delivering stories that matter for our planet.

In honour of Book Week, our very own Administrative Superstar, Abigail, became a real-life trailblazer, driving across Victoria to hand out special Durban Trailblazers Book Packs. These packs are filled with engaging reads focused on climate change, sustainability, the importance of habitats, and how we can all be more environmentally friendly.

Hitting the Road

From Melbourne’s buzzing suburbs to regional towns, Abigail’s journey took her to schools, early learning centres, and even hospitals. Each stop meant more kids (and grown-ups!) unwrapping books designed to inspire them to think about their environment – and how their actions today shape the world of tomorrow.

For us, this wasn’t just about giving away books – it was about sparking conversations. Because when a child learns the importance of protecting a habitat, reducing waste, or planting a tree, they carry that message for life.

Why Durban Created the Trailblazers

As gardeners and caretakers of green spaces, Durban sees firsthand how important it is to respect and protect our environment. With Durban Trailblazers, we want to encourage the next generation of young Australians to become eco-leaders, not just eco-followers!

We believe that by putting the right stories into young hands, we can help instil values of responsibility, creativity, and care for the planet. And what better time to do it than Book Week – when imagination is already running wild?

Planting Ideas, Growing Futures

This initiative is about more than books – it’s about planting ideas that grow into lifelong habits. Just as a garden flourishes with the right care, so too does a child’s sense of responsibility toward the Earth when it’s nurtured early.

We want every child who received a Durban Trailblazers pack to feel empowered: to see themselves as change makers who can reduce, reuse, recycle, and reimagine a better future for all.

A Week to Remember

Book Week 2025 has been one for the books (pun intended!). Watching the excitement on children’s faces as they discovered their Trailblazers packs was a highlight for us all!

A massive shoutout to Abigail for being the driving force behind this journey – quite literally – and to the teachers, carers, and families who welcomed us along the way.

At Durban, we’ll keep finding new ways to connect, inspire, and give back – not just through gardens, but through ideas that grow greener futures.

Until next time – keep reading, keep dreaming, and keep it green. 🌿
