804.25 km. $5,409 raised. Three years of showing up!

September has wrapped up, and so has another incredible Better Challenge for the Durban team.

For the third year running, Durban took part in the challenge, bringing our team together to move more, raise funds, and support The Kids’ Cancer Project.

What started as a fundraiser has well and truly become a Durban tradition — one that mixes teamwork, wellbeing, friendly competition, and giving back to a cause that matters.

One Month. One Team. One Big Goal.

Throughout September, Durban employees got moving however they could — walking, running, hiking, and clocking up kilometres wherever possible.

Some kilometres happened before work. Some happened after work. And let’s be honest, when you work in grounds maintenance, quite a few happened while already being on your feet all day.

The beauty of The Better Challenge is that everyone can take part in their own way. You don’t need to be a runner or an athlete. You just need to get moving, contribute, and support the cause.

And once the Durban leaderboard started moving, things definitely got a little competitive.

Why We Keep Coming Back

This year marked Durban’s third year participating, and once again it reminded us why we keep coming back.

The Better Challenge brings together so many things we value as a business — teamwork, wellbeing, community, and giving back.

It gives our crew something positive to work towards together while supporting a cause far bigger than ourselves.

There is something special about seeing people from different sites, roles, and teams all contributing to the same goal.

One person’s five kilometres might not feel huge on its own, but when an entire team keeps adding kilometre after kilometre, the impact quickly adds up.

Moving for Kids Who Need It Most

At the heart of the challenge is The Kids’ Cancer Project, which supports research aimed at improving outcomes for children with cancer.

That is what made every walk, run, donation, and tired pair of legs worth it.

Fundraising challenges like this give everyday people a practical way to contribute. We may not be scientists in a laboratory, but we can raise funds, spread awareness, and help support the people working towards better treatments and brighter futures.

Sometimes making a difference really can start with putting one foot in front of the other.

Backed by an Incredible Community

One of our favourite parts of The Better Challenge is seeing the support come from beyond the Durban team.

This year, donations came in from family, friends, clients, colleagues, and supporters.

Every donation — large or small — contributed to the final result, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who backed the Durban team throughout September.

We could not have achieved what we did without you.

Three Years In… and Still Showing Up

Year one got us started.

Year two raised the bar.

And year three proved that this challenge has become a genuine part of Durban’s culture.

Over the month, the team encouraged each other, clocked up kilometres, raised funds, and shared more than a little healthy competition along the way.

At Durban, giving back is not something we want to do once and move on from.

We want to build traditions around it.

And The Better Challenge has well and truly become one of them.

Every Kilometre Counted

There were tired legs.

There were definitely some questionable conversations about whose smartwatch was the most accurate.

And there may have been a few people taking the very long way back to the car to squeeze in a few extra kilometres.

But underneath all the fun was a cause that mattered.

And that is what kept us moving.

The Final Tally

Together, the Durban team clocked up an impressive 804.25 kilometres across September and raised $5,409 for The Kids’ Cancer Project.

For us, those figures represent much more than kilometres and dollars.

They represent teamwork, generosity, persistence, and an incredible community getting behind a cause that matters.

A massive thank you to every Durban employee who participated and to every person who donated, shared, encouraged, and supported us along the way.

We did it — and we are already looking forward to seeing what year four brings.

Until next time — keep moving, keep giving, and keep showing up for the things that matter.
