On Friday the 15th of May, the Durban crew across Melbourne swapped their usual work gear for something a little more pirate-worthy — eye patches, bandanas, flags as capes, and plenty of pirate spirit — all in support of Pirate Day, raising vital funds for childhood brain cancer research.
From worksites to depots, our crews embraced the day with pride, proving once again that the Durban team knows how to come together for a cause that truly matters.
And thanks to the incredible support from our families, friends, clients, and wider community, we’re proud to say we raised an amazing $2,200+ for The Kids’ Cancer Project. 💛🏴☠️
What is Pirate Day?
Held during Brain Cancer Awareness Month, Pirate Day is a national fundraising initiative supporting research into kinder and more effective treatments for childhood brain cancer. Schools, workplaces, and community groups across Australia dress up as pirates and raise “treasure” to help fund critical research.
The initiative began in 2014 after Nathan Colgan’s son, Conor, was diagnosed with brain cancer and needed to wear an eye patch following treatment — inspiring the very first Pirate Day at his school.
One Crew, One Cause
What made the day so special wasn’t just the costumes (although there were definitely some impressive pirate attempts), but seeing our entire crew across Melbourne get involved together.
Some rocked full pirate outfits including the bling.
Some kept it simple with a bandana or eye patch.
Some fully committed to the pirate accents by lunch.
But no matter how they dressed up, everyone wore it with pride knowing it was helping support kids and families facing one of life’s toughest battles.
A huge thank you also goes to C2A for coming along and taking part in the day with us. Seeing everyone get behind the cause together made the event even more special and highlighted the incredible partnership and culture we continue to build together.
Community Support That Means Everything
Raising over $2.2k wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible people who got behind us.

Why Durban Gets Involved
At Durban, we believe being part of a community means showing up for causes bigger than ourselves.
Whether it’s fundraising, supporting local initiatives, or simply getting the team together for a meaningful cause, these moments strengthen our culture and remind us what matters most — people.
And if we can raise awareness, raise funds, and have a few laughs in pirate gear along the way… even better!
Until Next Time…
The pirate hats may be packed away for now... but the impact of the day will continue long after May.
From all of us at Durban — thank you for helping us set sail for such an important cause (a cause that's very close to our hearts!)
Until next time — keep backing each other, keep giving back, and keep the pirate spirit alive 'Ahoy, me hearties!'. 🏴☠️🌿
